A report has drawn attention to an incident in Alaska involving Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s superyacht, Launchpad, and a 21-foot skiff that had run out of fuel between Petersburg and Juneau. The yacht was reportedly closer to the stranded boat when a distress call was made, while the skiff was ultimately rescued by the cruise ship Wilderness Legacy. A passenger aboard the rescuing vessel said the U.S. Coast Guard had radioed Zuckerberg’s yacht, which allegedly did not respond. The account prompted criticism, including reported booing from passengers when the cruise ship’s captain described the incident. However, Zuckerberg was not aboard Launchpad at the time, according to a spokesperson cited by Forbes. Brian Baker, speaking for Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan, said the yacht’s crew had been operating on a different radio channel and did not hear the initial call. He said that by the time the crew reviewed the broadcast, assistance was already underway. The incident has drawn attention because of Launchpad’s reported proximity and conflicting accounts over whether the yacht ignored or missed the distress call Key highlights: Launchpad is reportedly 387 feet long and worth around $300 million Wilderness Legacy ultimately rescued the stranded skiff #MarkZuckerberg #Zuckerberg #Launchpad #Superyacht #Alaska #Rescue #StrandedBoat #CoastGuard #DistressCall #news India Today Global is the international arm of India's most trusted media organization — delivering factual, up-to-date news, analysis, and insights from India and around the world.
