It was my then-girlfriend Sheilaβs favorite Christmas song. The brief time we shared together, from October until the end of 1996, was β like the entire year itself β one of the most memorable periods of my life. Emotions such as love, joy, pain, and deep sadness all intertwined during that time. Listening to this song now brings back the sense of hope I still carried at the end of 1996. After the magical Christmas days I had spent with Sheila, believing she might be the one β perhaps even my wife in a not so distant future β the heartbreak struck all the harder when she ended our relationship just a few days after New Yearβs. The contrast between the joy of those cherished moments and the sudden emptiness that followed felt utterly unbearable. Almost thirty years and countless experiences later, I, of course, view it all from a very different perspective. Yet I still wish I could tell her. I dedicated this song to Sheila. It accompanied my thoughts and experiences throughout that time, becoming inseparably tied to that chapter of my life.
